MEP Contracting | Commercial Fit-Out & Commercial Retrofit Projects
My client is one of the fastest-growing MEP Contractors in the UK, delivering high-profile commercial fit-out and Shell & Core projects across London and the South East. Their pre-construction team plays a critical role in the business, influencing project strategy, identifying opportunities and helping secure the schemes that drive continued growth. As a result of an expanding workload, they are looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Estimator to take ownership of mechanical tenders from enquiry through to submission, working closely with senior leadership and operational teams.
The Role
You will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive mechanical estimates across a range of commercial fit-out and Shell & Core projects, while supporting bid strategy and ensuring tenders are commercially robust. You'll work directly with decision-makers, have visibility across the wider business and play a key role in shaping future project wins.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed mechanical estimates from first principles for commercial construction projects
- Reviewing tender documentation including drawings, specifications and employer's requirements
- Performing accurate quantity take-offs and cost analysis
- Producing labour, material and plant cost assessments
- Obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Identifying value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions
- Attending tender review meetings and contributing to bid strategy
- Preparing comprehensive tender submissions and supporting documentation
- Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers and internal delivery teams throughout the tender process
- Supporting handovers to operational teams upon successful project award
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator or Senior Mechanical Estimator within an MEP Contractor environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services installations and construction methodologies
- Experience pricing commercial fit-out and Shell & Core projects
- Proficiency with Trimble Estimation software is essential
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders simultaneously
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
