MEP Buyer Technical Services / MEP Contracting New Business Division Central London £45,000 - £70,000 + strong benefits

A newly launched technical services business, backed by a £300m group, is looking to appoint an MEP Buyer to support its growth across technical services management, MEP subcontracting and decarbonisation.

This is a newly created role with genuine scope to influence how the procurement function develops.

You will work closely with the operational leadership team, supporting pre-construction, procurement and cost planning across a growing portfolio of MEP projects.

The business is building a lean, collaborative team and is looking for someone who is comfortable working close to the detail.

This will suit an ambitious buyer from an MEP subcontractor background who wants more influence, responsibility and visibility than a large corporate environment can offer.

Projects will include MEP subcontract packages on schemes valued around £20m, alongside technical services and sustainability-led work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, assess and manage mechanical and electrical supply-chain partners.
  • Obtain and analyse quotations for materials, plant, equipment and subcontract packages.
  • Support pre-construction, tendering and cost-planning activities.
  • Build procurement schedules aligned with project programmes and delivery requirements.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, lead times, payment terms and supply agreements.
  • Identify procurement risks, long-lead items and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Work with operational teams to ensure supply-chain partners meet project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors and specialist subcontractors.
  • Support the preparation of bid comparisons, procurement reports and package recommendations.
  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends and supply-chain capacity.
  • Assist with project mobilisation and the ongoing commercial management of procurement packages.
  • Help establish procurement processes and best practice as the business grows.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience as an MEP Buyer, Procurement Assistant, Assistant Buyer or similar role.
  • Background within an MEP subcontractor, Building Services contractor or specialist supply-chain business.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical procurement processes.
  • Experience supporting pre-construction, estimating, tendering or cost-planning activities.
  • Knowledge of MEP materials, plant, equipment and specialist subcontract packages.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple procurement activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Practical, proactive and comfortable working independently.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with suppliers, subcontractors and project teams.
  • Ambition to grow with a new business and take on increasing responsibility.
