Location: United Kingdom (regular site visits required).
Daily rate: depending on experience, expertise, profile, type of mission.
Start date: as soon as possible. Mission frequency and duration will depend on project timelines and your availability.
About the role: We are looking to partner with a UK‐based freelance Civil Engineer to provide technical support to our engineering team as part of large‐scale photovoltaic (solar PV) development projects. The role will involve participating in site assessments and design reviews (from early stage through to construction documents) for several projects across the UK.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct site visits for utility‐scale solar PV projects across the UK.
- Prepare site visit reports, including soil assessment and ground condition analysis, recommendations for foundation adaptation for solar structures (fixed‐tilt, trackers, etc.), regular inspections of construction sites, structures, access roads and general condition, produce clear structured reports with recommendations and actions, assess ground conditions or foundation needs from a civil/geo perspective.
- Carry out design reviews and preliminary civil/structural assessments.
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal engineering teams (electrical engineers, design engineers, project managers) and work closely with project managers.
Required profile
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with 3 years of civil engineering experience related to site design, land development and land use permitting.
- Based in the United Kingdom with availability for site travel.
- Understanding of UK standards and regulations.
- Proven ability to perform preliminary design assessments and technical design reviews.
- Analytical and reporting skills.
Nice‐to‐have skills
- Experience in the solar PV sector.
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering related to structural foundations.
- Background in utility‐scale infrastructure projects.
- Experience in civil or geotechnical works (foundations design, drainage, ground conditions).
