Registered General Nurse Location: Brighton, United Kingdom. Home: 41‑bed nursing home in Hove, BN3 housing younger and elderly adults, including people with mental health conditions, dementia, and physical disabilities.
Hours: 36 hours per week, day and night shifts. Pay: £20 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan and deliver nursing care with the patient and their carer/family, respecting patient choice and wishes.
- Accurately observe and engage with patients to assess their needs and evaluate their progress.
- Monitor and review nursing care plans.
- Evaluate and respond to changes in patient condition and needs.
- Deal proactively and effectively with suggestions and complaints from patients and their families or carers.
- Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in regular clinical and non‑clinical meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
- Prioritize nursing duties and delegate appropriately and effectively within the shift coordination framework.
- Develop and maintain good professional relationships with patients, colleagues and visitors, responding promptly and courteously to requests, enquiries and suggestions.
- Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient, relatives and carers.
- Participate in clinical supervision and reflective practice at least monthly.
- Work in accordance with safeguarding adult and children policies and requirements.
- Ensure the requirements of the Mental Health Act, Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Standards are met.
- Plan, implement and supervise the provision of quality care.
- Maintain required medical documentation.
- Uphold residents’ rights to privacy, dignity and choice.
- Report any ill health among residents and request professional visits when necessary.
- Familiarize with, and strictly adhere to, company policy, procedure and Care Inspectorate guidelines.
- Abide by the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) code of professional conduct.
Requirements
- Registered nurse (current PIN number with NMC).
- UK active PIN and at least 1 year of experience in the UK.
- Genuine desire to work with the elderly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Calm nature to defuse challenging situations.
- Knowledgeable about assessment, admission and discharge processes.
- Knowledgeable of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and committed to working within its codes of practice.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high‑stress situations.
