As a Nursing Assistant you will be expected to participate as a member of the Care Team to plan, lead, monitor and deliver high quality care to residents in line with their care plans, under the supervision and guidance of the Home Manager. You will be assisting residents with their daily activities and identifying and assisting them with their needs and preferences. You will be expected to communicate effectively, promote privacy, dignity, choice, independence, and individual rights and also participate in protecting our vulnerable residents from any harm or abuse. You will work alongside the Registered Nurse to ensure that residents' health and wellbeing needs, within the Nursing Assistant limitations. You will need to hold a NVQ/ Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care alongside completion of the Nursing Assistant program.
Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting; promote hygiene and dignity and independence where possible.
- Mobility Assistance: Help residents move around the facility, transfer between beds and chairs, and ensure safe navigation.
- Monitoring Vital Signs: Measure and record vital signs and report concerns to nursing staff.
- Feeding and Nutrition: Assist with eating and drinking according to dietary needs; may include support with feeding tubes or specialized diets as directed.
- Emotional Support: Provide emotional support to residents and their families.
- Maintaining Cleanliness and Safety: Keep rooms and common areas clean, change bed linens, and follow infection control protocols.
- Communication: Serve as the primary contact for residents, communicate needs to nursing staff, and ensure care plans are followed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Compassion and Patience; ability to work with elderly or disabled residents.
- Physical Strength to lift and move patients safely.
- Attention to Detail and observant to changes in residents' conditions.
- Teamwork and Communication; experience as a nursing assistant.
- NVQ3 in Health and Social Care.
- Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, schizophrenia care, memory care, and hospice support is desirable.
- Familiarity with observation techniques, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring.
- Experience in a similar role in the UK is desirable.
- Flexibility in working hours and ability to adapt to different healthcare settings.
- Right to work in the UK for at least 12 months without sponsorship.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; caring and compassionate; reliable.
- Ability to follow care plans effectively.
