Team Overview:
We are Sky Protect, combining 5-star home insurance with smart home technology to ensure our customers are connected, protected, and insured. Our team is growing, and we are looking for a Solution Architect to join our Insurtech team and take a central role in determining the success of our product.
Reporting into the Head of Software Architecture, you will be responsible for the platform and solution architecture for our consumer IoT devices and platform hosted on AWS. You will be instrumental in helping to shape the technology and integration strategy as we look to upgrade and expand our IoT device offering and integrate our IoT technology with other Sky products – Head of Software Architecture
What you’ll do:
- Architecture Designs: Create and maintain high-level end-to-end architecture designs and integrations for our products, including mobile apps, cloud-based platforms, and consumer devices.
- Solution Designs: Produce robust, scalable, performant, and cost-effective solution designs for integrations with our IoT devices and platforms. Collaborate with our infrastructure team, development teams, AWS, and device manufacturers to investigate bottlenecks and recommend optimization improvements.
- Firmware Integrations: Ensure firmware designs and integrations meet business requirements and non-functional requirements (NFRs) in collaboration with our device manufacturers.
- Policy Alignment: Align solution designs with all relevant policies and standards, including security policies, and ensure seamless integration with relevant Sky services, including identity, data and compliance.
- Communication and Estimation: Communicate solution overviews to enable delivery teams to estimate work through the work intake process. Provide estimation for architecture work required.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Establish working groups where necessary to facilitate cross-functional team contributions and reviews.
- Roadmap Contribution: Be a key contributor in shaping the future direction of our product, business, and technical objectives.
- Feedback and Recommendations: Provide feedback and recommendations to the Architecture group on working practices and guidelines.
What you’ll bring:
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated expertise in creating and maintaining end-to-end solution designs for cloud-based platforms, consumer devices, and mobile applications. Ideally, hands on experience with connected home solutions within the AWS cloud platform including experience with AWS IoT.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Cloud Design Principles: Strong knowledge of scalable and performant design principles within the cloud is essential.
- AWS Expertise: Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure and cloud networking.
- Programming Skills: Proficient in modern programming languages across the stack (e.g., Ruby, Kotlin, Swift, Python, etc.)
- Best Practices: Excellent knowledge of engineering best practices and DevOps.
- API Microservices: Experience in building scalable, secure API microservices.
- Performance Optimization: Skills in designing solutions optimized for performance, with a focus on monitoring and issue investigation metrics.
- Collaboration Skills: Ability to work closely with various teams, ensuring cohesive and optimized solutions. Open-minded as well as prepared to challenge; ambitious as well as pragmatic; detailed with the ability to cut through complexity.
- Strategic Contribution: Ability to provide comprehensive solution overviews for delivery teams, aiding in work estimation and contributing to the strategic direction and objectives of the product.
- Team Growth and Mentorship: Passion for mentoring junior architects, fostering their development, and enhancing the team’s overall skill set.
