The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of researching, shooting, editing, and delivering video content. They should understand what works across various owned and operated platforms, as well as social media channels. Exceptional news judgment and a track record in identifying and pitching trending stories are essential. The candidate should be a great writer with a flair for scripts, headlines, and thumbnails. This is a shift-based role, including early mornings, late shifts, and some weekends.
What You\’ll Do
- Create engaging digital videos tailored for different platforms and social media channels
- Pitch and produce creative treatments, angles, and ideas for stories Sky News is covering or should cover
- Generate and pitch original video and story ideas to film, edit, and front
- Collaborate with AEs to create striking thumbnails and headlines, especially for the Sky News app and YouTube
- Produce a range of content from long-form videos to explainers, analysis, and breaking news
- Demonstrate excellent news judgment and attention to detail
- Understand what video treatments and thumbnails work across platforms
- Deliver clear, accurate scripts, captions, and headlines for digital content
- Possess editorial and technical skills with video editing tools such as Adobe, Final Cut, Avid, or Quantel
- Apply best practices and legal knowledge to critique and sign off on sensitive video journalism
- Bring creativity and a sense of \’now\’ to your work
- Have experience working in a newsroom and hold a recognized qualification in journalism and media law
