Every year we offer one person the opportunity to work at the heart of the Sky News camera department for 12 months. The role was created in memory of Camera Operator/Editor Mick Deane, who was tragically killed whilst covering the ‘Arab Spring’ in Egypt in 2013, with the simple goal to learn about what it takes to be a modern-day, technical news camera crew.
Apart from having an interest in news, we are looking for someone who is keen to make the most of this opportunity, is flexible, has a strong work ethic, and is a team player. Due to the nature of the role, working hours and potential travel, having a driving license is recommended though not essential.
What you’ll do:
- Spend 12 months working alongside our newsgathering teams in the field from our base at Osterley.
- Work both in and around London, as well as around the UK on a variety of news stories.
- Combine in-house training with on-the-road, hands-on experience.
- Learn about what it takes to develop a career in the newsgathering industry by learning how to use a selection of technical equipment, including sound devices and various microphones used for both ENG and LIVE broadcasting.
- Use Sony PW- X200 and X400 cameras and Panasonic GH5 cameras.
- Based on your interests, branch out into other areas of Sky News’ operations department if/when possible.

Where you’ll work:
Our Osterley campus is a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station. Or you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses that run to and from Osterley, Chiswick Park, Gunnersbury, Acton Town and Ealing Broadway tube stations. There’s also plenty of parking, bike shelters and showers. On campus you’ll find six subsidised restaurants and a Waitrose. You can keep in shape at our subsidised gym, catch the latest shows and movies at our cinema, get your car washed and even get pampered at our beauty salon.
