SKV Motors is looking for an experienced and capable Level 3 Vehicle Technician / Mechanic to join our dealership in Romford. This will be an important role within our business. The majority of the day-to-day workload will consist of PDIs, servicing, maintenance and mechanical preparation of our sales vehicles. However, we are looking for a genuine all-round mechanic who also has the experience and confidence to take on larger and more complex mechanical repairs when required.

We need someone who can work independently, diagnose faults correctly and complete work to a high standard without requiring constant supervision.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Carrying out Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) on sales vehicles
  • Identifying mechanical faults, defects and preparation work required during PDI
  • Routine servicing and general vehicle maintenance
  • Brake pads and disc replacement
  • Suspension and steering repairs
  • Batteries, starter motors and alternators
  • Cooling system repairs
  • Auxiliary belts and related components
  • Mechanical and electrical fault finding
  • Using diagnostic equipment to identify and investigate faults
  • MOT preparation and repairs
  • General mechanical inspections
  • Preparing vehicles mechanically to a high retail standard
  • Road testing vehicles where required

Larger Mechanical Repairs

Although routine preparation and maintenance will make up the majority of the workload, you must also be experienced and confident carrying out more substantial mechanical jobs when they arise. This may include:

  • Wet belt replacement
  • Timing belt replacement
  • Timing chain work
  • Clutch replacement
  • Alternator and starter motor replacement
  • Cooling system and water pump repairs
  • Major engine component replacement
  • Engine removal and refitting where required
  • More complex mechanical fault finding and repairs

We do not expect these larger jobs every day, but we need a technician who has the knowledge, experience and practical ability to undertake them when required.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent
  • Ideally have 5+ years of hands-on workshop experience
  • Have genuine experience carrying out major mechanical repairs
  • Be confident working independently
  • Have strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Be comfortable working on a wide variety of makes and models
  • Be competent using modern diagnostic equipment
  • Be capable of accurately identifying faults during vehicle inspections and PDIs
  • Have good attention to detail
  • Work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship
  • Take responsibility for the quality of their work
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Experience working with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and other German vehicles would be particularly beneficial due to the type of vehicles we regularly stock.

Important – Please Read Before Applying

We are not looking solely for a service technician. While PDIs, servicing, brakes and general maintenance form a significant part of this position, we need an experienced mechanic who can also confidently take on more substantial mechanical work such as wet belts, timing components, clutches and engine-related repairs. Practical experience is extremely important to us. Candidates should be prepared to discuss examples of larger mechanical jobs they have personally completed and their experience diagnosing and repairing more complicated vehicle faults.

If you're an experienced all-round mechanic who is equally comfortable carrying out a PDI or service as you are taking on a clutch, wet belt or major mechanical repair, we'd like to hear from you. To apply, please submit your CV with details of your qualifications and relevant workshop experience.
