About Our Client:
Our client is a Zoology Graduate who has finished her degree at the University of Reading. She has a diagnosis of Athetoid Cerebral Palsy and is a full-time wheelchair user. The client leads a very active social life by meeting up with friends and family. She enjoys going to the cinema, karaoke bars and watching sci-fi shows such as Doctor Who.
With a joyful and delightful persona, as well as a good sense of humour, our client enjoys going out to various social events.
As written by her: Hi, I have Athetoid Cerebral Palsy, and I use an electric wheelchair. Everything I can do; I will do myself and I do not like asking for help. As a result, I often hint at things I want doing instead of actually asking. I can sometimes get grumpy and down when I am tired and in pain but will get back to my chirpy self fairly quickly. I like to look my best, so hair and makeup is a passion of mine. I am also interested in nature and animals, and thus, will always take the opportunity to watch a David Attenborough documentary. This is why I love my Zoology degree!
The things I'm looking for in a new P.A. is someone with things in common with me, someone who takes initiative, and most of all, someone with a sense of humour. I have a pet bearded dragon called Dumbles, so the job will involve feeding her and the crickets, feeding her the live crickets etc., and just getting her out to have a cuddle! I can get socially anxious however, so will need some gentle encouragement when meeting new people. Someone that can help drive the car would be great, as public transport isn't the most accessible option. Again, if you're driving, you will be insured on my car through 3rd party insurance.
I hope this has given you the chance to see if the job is right for you and I hope to hear from you soon.
About The Job:
This is a fantastic opportunity to truly make a positive difference to somebody else's life by assisting our client to achieve her goals and aspirations. Therefore, this job offers the prospect of meaning and job satisfaction. This is also a flatmate type of role which goes far beyond simply care work and includes all the fun things you'd expect a recent university graduate will be doing, like getting out and about to see friends, the cinema, going on holiday and much more! As well as this, there will be some housekeeping required as well as managing medications and our client's care routine.
You Will Need:
- To be physically fit, calm, patient and caring
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative
- To have a good sense of humour
- A mature and responsible attitude
- Good communication skills
- To be fluent in English
- To be clean and tidy in both your appearance and ways
- To be a non-smoker (preferable but not essential)
- A full clean UK driving licence - you need to be a confident motorway driver as you will be required to drive the client's adapted vehicle.
