About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a proactive and experienced Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Officer to join the team. This is a key role within the business, with responsibility for protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees, subcontractors, and stakeholders across multiple sites. You will play a vital part in ensuring full compliance with legislation, driving high standards, and embedding a positive safety culture throughout the branch.
You will work closely with management teams, site personnel, and external bodies, providing expert guidance and practical support while helping the business maintain its strong reputation for safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all employees and subcontractors carry out their work safely and in full compliance with Health and Safety legislation, including CDM regulations, company policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, codes of practice, and industry guidance to ensure the business remains at the forefront of safety standards.
- Support management on all Health and Safety matters, attending monthly meetings and liaising with external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive.
- Identify Health and Safety training needs and support the delivery and coordination of training to ensure ongoing competency and awareness.
- Compile and maintain accurate Health and Safety records, including F10 notifications to the HSE, and ensure phase plans are updated or extended when required.
- Develop and implement an annual programme of SHE monitoring exercises across all sites to ensure compliance with safe systems of work.
- Carry out regular site inspections and audits, including annual audits, and report findings to branch and regional management.
- Prepare and present monthly reports and statistical analysis covering accidents, incidents, near misses, waste management, and other key performance indicators for internal stakeholders and clients.
- Promote and support branch and group-wide Health and Safety campaigns, with a strong focus on accident prevention and continuous improvement.
- Ensure adequate numbers of trained First Aid personnel are always available.
- Manage the development and review of risk assessments and ensure effective resolution of any actions or issues identified.
- Work collaboratively with branch and regional Health and Safety colleagues to ensure consistency and best practice across the business.
- Investigate all accidents and incidents thoroughly and provide detailed reports to senior and divisional management.
- While the role has no direct reports, you will be responsible for ensuring all employees meet Health and Safety expectations and standards.
- Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role and aligned with branch and wider operational needs.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence, as daily travel to sites is required.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- CMIOSH or MIIRSM membership.
- Proven experience in Health and Safety within construction, including new build and retrofit projects, building maintenance, or a similar environment.
- Strong working knowledge of current SHE legislation, codes of practice, and safe systems of work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general office systems.
