Job Description

£36 per hour | Approx. 3 hours per week | Fridays

Are you a talented and enthusiastic guitar teacher who is passionate about inspiring young musicians? Northern Star Academies Trust is seeking a skilled Self-employed Guitar Teacher to deliver high-quality instrumental tuition to students. This is an exciting opportunity to share your expertise, nurture musical talent, and help students develop confidence and a lifelong love of music.

About the Role

Working closely with the Curriculum Leader of Music, you will provide engaging and personalised guitar lessons to students of varying ages and abilities. The role is currently for approximately 3 hours per week on Fridays, with the potential for hours to vary in line with student demand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach guitar skills including chords, scales, strumming, fingerstyle techniques and improvisation.
  • Deliver lessons across a range of musical genres, including rock, blues, jazz and classical.
  • Create tailored lesson plans to meet individual student needs, abilities and aspirations.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Prepare students for performances, recitals and examinations where appropriate.
  • Encourage confidence, motivation and positive practice habits.
  • Maintain attendance records and communicate effectively with students and parents/carers.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has advanced guitar performance skills and a strong understanding of music theory and notation.
  • Has experience teaching individuals and/or groups.
  • Holds a degree in Music, Music Education or possesses equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can motivate and inspire learners of all abilities.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Is legally entitled to work in the UK.
