We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Integration team at Skipton Building Society. This is a hands-on role building REST APIs, event-driven integrations, and messaging solutions that connect our savings, mortgage, and digital platforms in a secure, regulated environment.

You’ll bring strong Azure integration expertise, take ownership of what you build, and help raise engineering standards through design input, code reviews, and collaboration. This role suits someone who cares about both engineering quality and team ways of working.

You’ll spend most of your time coding, with opportunities to contribute to design, work across teams, and mentor others offering real technical influence while staying close to delivery.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job. We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.

Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do. Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

You’ll join our Integration team, working as part of a collaborative engineering community delivering secure, scalable solutions across savings, mortgages, and member platforms. The team builds APIs, messaging, and event-driven integrations connecting core systems with internal teams and third parties. You’ll work closely with Product, Architecture, and DevSecOps with real opportunity to influence design and approach.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused team where engineers take ownership and support each other through collaboration and mentoring.

What’s In It For You?

  • Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible.
  • We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.
  • We have a range of other benefits available to you including:
    • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
    • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days
    • Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days
    • Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
    • Colleague mortgage (conditions apply)
    • Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric car
    • A commitment to training and development
    • Private medical insurance for all our colleagues
    • 3 paid volunteering days per annum
    • Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups
    • We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Design, build, and deliver API and integration solutions on Azure
  • Take ownership of solutions across the full lifecycle – from design to production support
  • Develop event-driven integrations using the right patterns (APIs, messaging, streaming)
  • Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and reliable with strong monitoring and observability
  • Contribute to API standards, integration patterns, and engineering best practices
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and drive quality through testing and automation
  • Collaborate with Product, Architecture, and platform teams to shape solutions
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to a knowledge-sharing culture
  • Continuously improve team practices, tools, and ways of working

What Do We Need From You?

  • Strong API & Integration Engineering
  • Proven experience building APIs and integrations in Azure using C#/.NET
  • Hands-on with Azure services (API Management, Service Bus, Functions, Event Hub)
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging patterns
  • Strong understanding of REST API design, security (OAuth2/JWT), and versioning
  • Knowledge of integration resilience (retry, error handling, fault tolerance)
  • Technical Design & Leadership
  • Able to design scalable, resilient integration solutions
  • Comfortable making technical decisions and contributing to standards and best practices
  • Experience reviewing code and supporting other engineers
  • Engineering Quality & Delivery
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring (e.g. Application Insights)
  • Understanding of modern development practices and reliable release approaches
  • Familiarity with containers and infrastructure-as-code is beneficial
  • Collaboration & Communication
