Skips R Us, a leading waste management company, is hiring a Full-time HGV Mechanic/Plant Fitter to join our growing team. As an HGV/Plant Mechanic, you will maintain our fleet of vehicles, trailers, and plant equipment. This includes Walking Floors, Tipping Trailers, Hook loaders, Skip Loaders, Shredders, Crushers, Excavators, and more. A competitive salary and all necessary tools will be provided to the selected candidate.

Your Duties will include:

  • Preparing HGVs and Trailers for MOT
  • Ordering parts as required for repairs
  • Performing routine maintenance on company equipment and completing six-week inspections on all vehicles and trailers as necessary
  • Respond to roadside breakdowns
  • Diagnose mechanical/electrical faults
  • Ensure that all required repairs are carried out in a timely manner

This list is not exhaustive; additional duties may be required.

Workshop Responsibilities

  • Ensure all vehicle/trailer defects are reported promptly to the Workshop Manager
  • Accurately complete job cards and comply with company time‑recording processes
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organised work environment
  • Support workshop stock control and general workshop duties

Breakdowns & Callouts

  • Assist with roadside or on‑site breakdowns as required
  • Participate in the on‑call rota (additional payment provided)

Skills Required:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as a team member
  • Experience in repairing and maintaining heavy machinery
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
  • Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and tools is advantageous
  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic and hold a NVQ Level 3 or similar

Desirable:

  • Welding experience (MIG/TIG) advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional and reliable approach to work
