What is expected from you?
At the beginning of your career, as a graduate or with a few years’ experience, your focus is on learning and developing yourself into an all-round insights professional. Your objective is to achieve project management excellence and become a skilled, knowledgeable insights professional. You are passionate about working on real-life business challenges in the innovation, communication and portfolio optimization spaces and help some of the most influential companies in the world make data-driven decisions – from which products to launch or keep in market to defining how such products are presented and marketed towards consumers.
You will get the chance to learn the full process of a market research and consulting project:
- From solution brainstorming and writing proposals…
- to setting up research projects (including questionnaire creation, programming and technical setup),
- modelling and data analysis,
- giving actionable recommendations and strategies and
- working with clients from day one.
You may have more affinity for certain areas of research, such as analytics, modelling, client management, or advising clients. Therefore, your journey into market research and insights may differ from others because we emphasize each individual’s unique talents. But saying that, we do think it’s important to be exposed to all the different corners of research before you decide which career paths excite you most. We expect you to learn, gain experience, maximize exposure to different challenges, build your technical skills, develop independence and project management excellence.

The key skills for a SKIMmer working in the area of consumer insights and consulting are:
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills: Asking the right questions to get to the core of the ‘why’, consider the alternatives and think creatively to recommend the most impactful solution for our clients.
- Number savvy: With an eye for detail, you are passionate about working with numbers, and you are comfortable working with big datafiles in Excel (or eager to learn)
- Empathy: You can step into the consumer’s shoes and put them at the center of your thinking. You actively listen and seek to understand their perspective and challenges.
- Collaboration: This is an essential part of SKIM’s and each SKIMmer’s success. You can work well in a team, build strong relationships and create meaningful connections with colleagues and clients. We expect you to support others, share knowledge, encourage each other’s success, build our SKIM community.
- Excellent communication skills: How else can we partner with clients and work as a team?
Other important competencies are being determined and focused, being able to quickly understand the critical success factors, an eye for detail, being able to prioritize, and working with tight deadlines. We don’t ask you to be a perfectionist, we expect you to make mistakes in order to learn and grow; however, we do expect you to have an ambition to strive towards excellence. Technical skills such as R, SPSS, Excel are preferred. Besides that,we expect you to have a true interest in marketing, market research, consumer behavior, and/or data analytics.
SKIMmers have a strong academic background, though they have studied a vast variety of subjects including Marketing Science, Data Science, Consumer Behavior, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics, Economics & Marketing, Neuroscience, Business Analytics or other interesting studies with a research or statistical background.
