Base pay range
The Maintenance and Facilities Operative will be responsible for property maintenance and general facilities cleaning. The ideal candidate is required to be a hard-working, honest, dependable, self-motivated person.
Skills People Group are a national provider of NVQ, Apprenticeships, Programmes for the unemployed and Compliance training. We specialise in both commercial and funded training and are proud to be nationally recognised as one of the UKβs largest private training providers. We are currently recruiting for a highly organised, maintenance operative to join our existing team.
The successful candidate will undertake the following main Duties and Responsibilities:
Upkeep and general care of the Academies and business offices.
Carrying out minor repairs to property, fixtures, fittings, and equipment, which are not beyond the scope of a semi- skilled handyman.
Drawing the attention of the respective managers, any repairs or maintenance work, which is beyond the competence and responsibility of the post holder.
Directing workmen and contractors to the sites of repair and maintenance work and inspecting the work of contractors where there is a requirement to sign a satisfaction note.
General porterage duties and moving of furniture and equipment
Assisting Academy staff with simple tasks as requested and appropriate
Checking damage/security on arrival at locations
Receive and check goods and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage
Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes when on site
Check fire extinguishers and system periodically
Report any defects of building, furniture, fittings, and equipment to the respective Manager
General grounds maintenance
Regular check of roofs for debris, plant growth etc.
Regularly check and clean soffits, bargeboards, and external lights
Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds
Disinfect drains and dustbins regularly
Make safe any hazards and ensure that the area is cordoned off
Keep paths, entrances free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of learners, staff, and visitors.
Meet regularly with the respective Manager re: Health and Safety issues and Building Maintenance
Check and maintain the Heating, Lighting and Water systems
Ensure that all lights and heating are working effectively
Read Gas, Electric and Water metres as required
Monitoring and setting of heating controls and water heaters.
Be aware of the location of all stopcocks, gas and electricity meters and read meters as required.
Using appropriate PPE at all times
Any other work requested by, and deemed appropriate by, the Academy Manager and by agreement with the post holder.

A level one Health and Safety within the construction industry
