DP Bricklayers are looking for a Bricklaying Apprentice to join their team in Plymouth. DP Bricklayers are an established company within the Plymouth area, working on new build sites and domestic sites. We are looking to expand our workforce by taking on a Level 2 Bricklaying Apprentice. The Apprentice’s Role Throughout your apprenticeship you will be taught the skills and knowledge you need to become a qualified bricklayer at Level 2. You will learn how to lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures (e.g., chimney stacks). You will also learn about customer service, health and safety, preparation of materials, safe working practices, manual lifting, and how to prepare and clear your workspace. The successful candidate will work in Plymouth and the surrounding areas. Working Hours The working hours will be around 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours may vary slightly depending on workload and travel time. Wages £8.00 per hour. Any overtime (if applicable) above the 40 hours per week will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age. Holiday 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship. Skills Required The ideal candidate should be eager and keen to succeed within the construction industry. You will need to cope with the physical demands of the role. Good communication is required to work well within a small friendly team. You must always be on time and prompt with the work you carry out. Personal Qualities The successful candidate needs strong motivation to work hard and to a high standard to succeed in this role. You will need to be confident, outgoing and enthusiastic about the construction industry. A good head for heights would be desirable as you will be working at heights on scaffolding and platform towers, both indoors and outdoors. Prior Qualifications Qualifications required for this role include GCSE grades A* – E in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications. Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1) Construction Skills Health, Safety and Environment test – CSCS Test Emergency First Aid Certified Health and Safety Course Internet Safety / Safeguarding Training Program As part of the apprenticeship programme, you will be required to attend our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training. While at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge- and theory-based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing, and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding. We will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, which will enable you to apply for your CSCS Card, demonstrating that you are at the required competent level to carry out site work with the employer.
