External Quality Assurers (EQA) for BIIAB qualifications play a crucial role in ensuring that SIA-licence linked qualifications are delivered to a high standard. This role will be responsible for ensuring that all BIIAB Approved Centres adhere to BIIAB standards and other regulatory requirements as set by BIIAB, OFQUAL and the SIA.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To conduct robust quality assurance evaluations of BIIAB Approved Centres offering SIA-license linked qualifications.
- To perform on-site visits and audits to assess the delivery, assessment, and administration of qualifications in line with established standards and guidelines.
- To conduct sampling of learner evidence, to ensure that those being certificated have the knowledge and training to work safely within the sector and protect the public.
- To produce detailed reports summarising findings, recommendations, and areas for improvement based on assessment outcomes.
- To provide expert guidance and support to BIIAB Approved Centres on compliance issues, assessment practices, and regulatory requirements.
- To collaborate closely with internal teams to develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in qualification delivery and assessment.
- To support malpractice investigations relating to SIA-licence linked qualifications.
- To support events for BIIAB Security Centres.
- As requested, to undertake visits alongside colleagues from third-party stakeholders (such as SIA).
- To maintain sector competence through CPD activities, keeping abreast of changes in regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- To prepare for and participate in standardisation activities.
The above duties are not exclusive or exhaustive and the postholder may be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be determined by the Chief Executive, or Director of Qualifications, Assessment and Regulation. The postholder will be expected to adopt a flexible approach to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Company.
Other Duties:
- To ensure awareness of and compliance with all health and safety requirements taking reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself and other persons in accordance with the provision of Health and Safety legislation.
- To exercise proper care in operating, handling and safeguarding any equipment and appliances provided and issued by Skills and Education Group for individual or collective use in the performance of duties.
- To keep up to date, so far as is necessary, for the efficient execution of the role, with new legislation, procedures and methods.
- To participate in the Company’s appraisal process and to undertake appropriate training/development to ensure up-to-date knowledge and practices are applied and maintained for the efficient and effective performance of the post and to support the Company’s strategic objectives.

Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Educated to level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject; Minimum GCSE English at Grade 4 or above or equivalent qualification in English Language; Assessor and Quality Assurance qualifications such as D32,33,34 or A1,V1 and V2 or TAQA Assessor, IQA and EQA; Qualification in training and development.
- Knowledge and Experience: Occupational competence of working in the security industry of either frontline security experience (2 years in the last 5 years) or experience with security-licenced training; In depth knowledge of Security Industry Authority (SiA) licenced-linked qualifications; Demonstrable experience of working in line with quality assurance and regulatory requirements; Recent demonstrable experience as an External Quality Assurer; Experience of developing and co-ordinating standardisation events; Experience of producing accurate, concise and clear written reports.
- Skills: High standards of accuracy and attention to detail; Excellent written and verbal communication skills presenting information logically and concisely in ways that promote understanding; Excellent IT skills, confident with using a variety of systems and Microsoft Office; Ability to prioritise, plan and organise day to day activities ensuring efficient and effective performance; Effective problem-solving techniques; Ability to work effectively within and between teams to achieve common objectives.
