Skillnet Training Academy is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Heavy Vehicle Tutor to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment across the Heavy Vehicle curriculum. If you’re passionate about developing the next generation of Heavy Vehicle technicians and thrive in a dynamic teaching environment, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
You will deliver high‑quality technical training, practical skills development and assessment to apprentices enrolled on Heavy Vehicle programmes. Your work will help shape confident, capable future technicians by providing a safe and professional learning environment and consistently delivering to high standards. You’ll also contribute to curriculum development, create engaging resources, support learners pastorally and academically, and take on leadership of course team activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Heavy Vehicle Engineering and associated Motor Vehicle Studies (Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours)
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons, schemes of work and assessments
- Mark assignments, conduct tutorials and support progression
- Integrate Functional Skills and provide feedback on Maths & English within vocational tasks
- Act as a personal tutor, managing learner progress files
- Support apprenticeship standards, frameworks, assessment and internal verification
- Develop and maintain high‑quality resources, including e‑learning materials
- Complete all administrative duties linked to teaching and learning
- Uphold safeguarding, Prevent, equality, H&S and confidentiality standards
- Participate in CPD, performance reviews and continuous improvement activities
What We’re Looking For
- Essential
- Experience in Heavy Vehicle repair, diagnostics and maintenance
- Teaching qualification (AET/PTLLS/CertEd/PGCE)
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle qualification (IMI/C&G/BTEC)
- Assessor qualification (A1/CAVA)
- GCSE/Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths & English
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to design schemes of work and lesson plans
- Excellent admin, organisation and team‑leading ability
- Experience teaching and assessing in automotive training settings
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
- Desirable
- Electric Vehicle experience
- MOT testing experience
- Internal Quality Assurance qualification
