An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineering Lecturer to join our team delivering the renowned Ford Engineering Apprenticeship Programme at our state-of-the-art training centre in Basildon, Essex.
This role will involve delivering innovative classroom and workshop-based training to high-calibre engineering apprentices undertaking their Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Programme. You will play a vital role in developing the next generation of engineering professionals through engaging and inspiring teaching, coaching and mentoring.
The Role
As a Mechanical Engineering Lecturer, you will be responsible for the planning, delivery, assessment and progression of apprentices undertaking programmes in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. You will deliver a combination of theoretical and practical training, supporting learners through both EAL and BTEC qualifications, whilst ensuring apprentices achieve the high standards expected within the Ford Engineering Apprenticeship Programme.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering classroom and workshop-based mechanical engineering training.
- Teaching and assessing EAL Level 2 and Level 3 engineering units.
- Delivering practical instruction in hand fitting and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
- Supporting engineering knowledge units including Engineering Communications and Engineering Projects.
- Planning and preparing lessons, schemes of work and learning resources.
- Marking assignments and assessments, providing timely and effective feedback.
- Monitoring learner progress and maintaining accurate records.
- Acting as a personal tutor, providing academic guidance and pastoral support.
- Supporting apprenticeship inductions and learner reviews.
- Promoting safeguarding, wellbeing, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Participating in employer engagement, recruitment events and marketing activities.
- Maintaining continuous professional development and current industry knowledge.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and engaging engineering professional with a passion for developing apprentices and supporting learner success.
Essential Requirements
- Significant occupational experience within Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical Engineering qualification at Level 3 or above.
- Teaching qualification and/or Assessor Award (or willingness to work towards one).
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and IT.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to engage and inspire learners in both practical and classroom environments.
- Experience of working to quality and performance targets.
Desirable
- Experience delivering engineering qualifications in further education, apprenticeships or workplace learning.
- HNC/HND, Foundation Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a STEM subject.
- Experience of curriculum development.
- Membership of a professional body such as IMechE, IET or similar.
- Experience delivering CAD, Engineering Drawing, Machining or Manufacturing Engineering subjects.
