Location: Central London - 5 days in office

Most graduate roles hand you a year of shadowing and a stack of slide decks, whereas this one sits you next to the people building credit models for UK lenders and gets your own work in front of a client within a few weeks of joining.

It's a small, founder-led consultancy started by two people with 13 years each in financial services behind them, and they've already earned the trust of some of the best-known names in banking. The team is hand-picked and deliberately lean, so there's no big pyramid to wait your turn in, and you'll find yourself on client calls early on, sitting close enough to the senior people to pick up how they think as you go.

Your first year is a full tour of credit risk, taking in IFRS 9 expected credit loss, IRB models, scorecards and validation work, and covering everything from cleaning a raw client extract to writing up the results. You don't need to know any of it yet because they'll teach you the rulebook as you go, and while credit risk experience is a bonus if you've got it, what matters more is that you can code and that you're the sort of person who sees things through to the end.

It doesn't stop at credit risk either, because the firm also works across data engineering and applied AI, often for the same clients, so if you find yourself drawn that way after a few months there's room to follow it. AI is part of the daily toolkit here too, which means you'll be building with it from the start, and the people who join at this level are the ones who'll be running engagements in a few years.

So, if you have:

  • A BSc or MSc in maths, stats, physics, econometrics, engineering, computer science or similar (MSc preferred)
  • A 2:1 or above
  • Python/R/SAS you can show off, whether that's a repo, a personal project, the code behind your dissertation or a competition entry
  • Quantitative work you saw through to the end, like a research project, placement or internship
  • Real curiosity about lending and how it's regulated

And can:

  • Write Python/R that a colleague can read, run and reuse
  • Load a messy dataset, clean it up and say something sensible about it
  • Explain what you did to someone who wasn't there when you did it
  • Take review comments well and fix the cause rather than the symptom
  • Ask for help when you're stuck (after a couple of hours of trying first)
