Hours: Monday – Friday 8am to 4pm (30-minute lunch) OFFICE BASED.
Our client is seeking an experienced Imports Customs Manager to take full ownership of import operations across multiple UK sites. You will oversee the full customs process, maintain HMRC compliance, manage key accounts, and optimise operational procedures. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining team management with direct involvement in customs clearance, compliance, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and manage the import customs team (4 staff).
- Act as the primary contact for customs-related matters with customers, HMRC, and internal departments.
- Personally process customs clearance entries (CDS) for courier and cargo imports at multiple UK airports.
- Oversee customs systems (Boxtop, Customs Central, ASM Sequoia) and maintain accurate HS codes, valuations, and origin declarations.
- Keep up to date with changes in customs legislation, tariffs, and procedures, and share updates with the team.
- Manage low value bulk clearance (BIRDS) and high value imports.
- Reconcile Deferment and FAS accounts monthly.
- Review and enhance processes to ensure maximum efficiency and 100% HMRC compliance.
Requirements:
- Proven management and leadership experience within courier imports.
- Strong knowledge of HMRC customs clearance procedures and ETSF processes.
- Proficient in Descartes (e-customs), ASM (Sequoia), CDS, and CNS systems.
- Hands-on clearance experience including low value bulk (BIRDS).
- Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Desirable:
- Export customs clearance experience.
- MOU & AEO knowledge.
