We are seeking an experienced Linux Automation Engineer/DevOps Engineer to join a high-profile enterprise environment, supporting critical platform infrastructure and automation capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on contractor who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, improving operational efficiency, and working across large-scale production environments.
You'll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing existing automation solutions, supporting Linux-based platforms, and contributing to ongoing modernisation initiatives within a mature enterprise technology landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automation solutions developed in Perl, Python, Bash, Korn Shell, and related technologies.
- Support and administer Linux production environments (RHEL and similar enterprise distributions), ensuring high levels of stability, availability, and performance.
- Design and implement automation improvements to streamline operational processes and reduce manual intervention.
- Diagnose and resolve infrastructure, application, and network-related issues across complex enterprise platforms.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes using modern DevOps practices.
- Work closely with engineering, operations, and support teams to investigate incidents, implement fixes, and drive continuous improvement.
- Support database-backed applications and services, performing troubleshooting and maintenance activities where required.
- Contribute to technical design discussions and platform engineering initiatives focused on modernisation and operational excellence.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux administration and troubleshooting in enterprise environments.
- Excellent Scripting and automation skills using Perl, Python, Bash, and/or Korn Shell.
- Proven experience supporting and maintaining production applications and critical services.
- Experience working with Git-based development workflows and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while engaging effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience working within large-scale, enterprise, or regulated environments.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with NetApp storage, SAN technologies, or enterprise storage platforms.
- Knowledge of Kerberos, SPNEGO, and enterprise authentication frameworks.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, SQLite, or similar databases.
- Exposure to cloud technologies, containerisation, and modern platform engineering practices.
- Experience supporting Legacy systems while contributing to transformation and modernisation programmes.
