An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Site Manager to take a No.1 site leadership role on a flagship £19m new-build education and residential development in Harlow. The project comprises a specialist SEND school for 64 pupils aged 7–16, alongside a residential accommodation facility providing 15 overnight places. The development is being delivered using steel frame construction, precast floors, piled foundations and a bio-solar roof, creating a Carbon Net Zero in Operation facility that will provide a lasting benefit to the local community.

This role would suit a hands-on construction professional who enjoys being out on site, driving subcontractor performance, maintaining programme momentum and leading projects through the key delivery stages. The project team are seeking a true builder who can take ownership of day-to-day site operations and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the project from construction through to completion and handover. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing all day-to-day site operations
  • Driving programme performance and ensuring project milestones are achieved
  • Managing subcontractors across multiple work packages
  • Ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification
  • Maintaining the highest standards of Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental compliance
  • Building strong relationships with the client, consultants and wider project team
  • Identifying risks, resolving issues and implementing solutions proactively
  • Managing site logistics and construction sequencing
  • Supporting and developing site teams and junior managers
  • Maintaining accurate project records and compliance documentation
  • Championing continuous improvement throughout project delivery

About You

You will be an experienced Senior Site Manager with a proven track record of delivering complex construction projects for a main contractor. You will possess:

  • Extensive experience as a Senior Site Manager or Site Manager on new-build projects
  • Strong technical construction knowledge across structural frame, envelope and fit-out packages
  • Experience working for a recognised main contractor
  • Excellent leadership and subcontractor management skills
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and programme delivery
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of construction contracts
  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent construction-related qualification
  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable:

  • Previous SEND, education or public-sector project experience
  • Residential construction experience
  • Experience delivering projects valued at £15m+
  • Experience working on mixed-use education and residential developments
