Job Title: Electrician Renewables. Job Type: Full time. Location: Portsmouth. Salary: £45,000. Skilled Careers are seeking a permanent renewables electrician to work in social housing homes in the Portsmouth area. We are looking for a highly skilled Renewables Electrician that has previous experience in installing, testing, and commissioning domestic solar PV systems.

Responsibilities

  • As a Renewables Electrician, your role will involve installing, testing, and commissioning domestic and commercial solar PV systems, ensuring all works are carried out to the highest standards and in line with UK building regulations and DNO requirements.
  • You will be responsible for fault finding on both AC and DC circuits, working with inverters, isolators, monitoring systems, and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols, RAMS, and company procedures.
  • As the face of the business, you will engage with customers on-site, providing a professional and knowledgeable service while promoting sustainability and renewable energy solutions.
  • This is a varied and rewarding role where you will use your expertise to support the transition to greener energy, making a real impact in homes and businesses.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Experience installing, testing, and commissioning domestic and/or commercial solar PV systems
  • Competent in fault finding, diagnosing, and repairing AC/DC circuits, inverters, and isolators
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with remote monitoring systems, data loggers, and apps
  • Thorough knowledge of Health & Safety protocols, RAMS, and compliance with UK building regulations and DNO requirements
  • Proven track record of completing works efficiently, safely, and to high quality standards

Qualifications and Certificates

  • Recognised Electrical apprenticeship and/or full electrical qualifications
  • 18th Edition IEE (essential)
  • Solar PV qualification (City & Guilds 2399, LCL Level 3, or BPEC)
  • ECS Gold Card (or willingness to obtain before start date)
  • Full UK Driving licence (maximum 7 points)
  • MCS/PAS 2030/G98/G99 knowledge desirable
