We are currently recruiting for a Senior Technical Manager to manage a team across multiple projects, this is a technical lead role that is solely responsible for the technical function.

The Company

Our client is a leading Main Contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality residential-led developments across the Midlands and wider UK. Their portfolio includes large-scale mixed-use schemes, high-rise residential developments, regeneration projects, Build-to-Rent, PBSA and affordable housing developments. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Manager to lead and manage the regional technical team from their Coventry office.

The Role

As Senior Technical Manager, you will be responsible for leading the technical function across multiple residential projects throughout the region. You will manage and mentor Technical Managers and Coordinators, oversee consultant teams, and ensure all projects are delivered in line with programme, budget, quality standards and statutory requirements. This is a leadership role requiring a balance of technical expertise, people management and strategic oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor and develop the regional technical team.
    • Manage workloads, resource planning and project allocation.
    • Drive high performance and continuous improvement across the department.
    • Support recruitment, training and career development initiatives.
    • Promote best practice design management and technical delivery processes.
  • Technical & Design Management
    • Oversee the technical delivery of multiple residential-led developments.
    • Manage external consultant teams including architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors.
    • Chair and lead design team meetings.
    • Ensure design information is coordinated, compliant and issued in accordance with programme requirements.
    • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Project Delivery
    • Work closely with Construction, Commercial, Planning and Pre-Construction teams.
    • Drive technical programmes to ensure key milestones are achieved.
    • Monitor design progress and approvals to support successful project delivery.
    • Provide technical support during procurement and construction phases.
    • Resolve complex design and construction issues.
  • Compliance & Building Safety
    • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, Building Safety Act requirements, NHBC standards and relevant legislation.
    • Oversee Gateway submissions and statutory approvals where applicable.
    • Maintain robust technical governance and quality assurance procedures.
    • Support project teams in achieving regulatory and warranty approvals.
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Act as the senior technical representative for the region.
    • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, local authorities, warranty providers and key project stakeholders.
    • Provide regular project updates and technical reporting to senior management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Senior Technical Manager, Technical Lead or Head of Technical role.
  • Strong residential construction background gained with a Main Contractor, Developer or Housebuilder.
  • Experience managing technical teams and delivering multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent understanding of Building Regulations, NHBC standards and Building Safety Act requirements.
  • Ability to lead consultant teams and manage complex design coordination processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness and risk management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
