Shoreditch, London | Medium-sized Civil & Structural Engineering Consultancy
I’m currently working with a growing, well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint an Associate Director to lead their team. Based close to Old Street Station, the business offers a modern, collaborative working environment and a genuinely exciting opportunity for an experienced civil engineer to take on a senior leadership position within a growing practice.
The Opportunity
This is a key role within the London civil engineering team, where you will take responsibility for leading a small team of engineers, overseeing technical delivery while also playing a major role in client management, business development and the continued growth of the team. The role would suit an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong track record across drainage, highways and SuDS, who is now looking to take the next step into a senior management position with genuine influence over the direction and growth of the business.
You will be expected to be confident working directly with clients, developing new relationships and opportunities, preparing fee proposals and quotations, and helping to grow the civil engineering offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a small team of engineers.
- Oversee the delivery of civil engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Provide technical leadership across drainage, highways, SuDS and external works.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Prepare fee proposals, quotations and scopes of work.
- Support the wider leadership team with the continued growth of the civil engineering team.
- Mentor and develop junior and senior engineers within the team.
- Take a commercially minded approach to project delivery, resource management and client relationships.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced civil engineering professional with a strong technical background and a proven track record of successfully delivering projects and managing clients. You should be comfortable operating at a senior level, with the confidence to lead a team, win work, manage relationships and take commercial responsibility. Chartered status would be highly advantageous, alongside strong experience in drainage, highways and SuDS. Most importantly, this is an opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond purely technical project delivery and play a genuine role in the growth and leadership of a consultancy.
Why Join?
Career progression is a major focus of the business. The leadership team strongly believes in promoting from within and rewarding performance, with clear opportunities for engineers who want to progress into senior leadership and director-level positions. As the consultancy continues to grow, there is genuine scope to take on increased responsibility, build your own client base, develop the team and ultimately progress towards Director and Partner-level positions. You’ll also benefit from a collaborative culture, flexible working, exposure to a diverse range of projects and the opportunity to help shape the future direction of a growing consultancy.
If you’re an experienced Civil Engineer currently operating at Principal or Associate level and are looking for a genuine step towards Associate Director/Director, this could be an excellent opportunity to explore.
