An established major UK main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Business Development Manager to join its London & South East Commercial team.
The business delivers projects across the public, private and regulated sectors, with the London & South East team focusing primarily on commercial new build, cut & carve refurbishment and residential developments , including affordable housing. Current projects across London range from approximately £15m to £120m+ .
The Role
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Director, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing and converting new opportunities across the London and South East market.
You will build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants and key industry contacts while developing intelligence around upcoming projects, emerging markets and potential opportunities.
Key responsibilities will include managing the opportunity pipeline, developing client and project-specific strategies, identifying negotiated opportunities and partnerships, and supporting the business through the pre-tender process.
You will work closely with Pre-Construction, Estimating, Proposals and Marketing teams , providing commercial and market intelligence to support project selection and tender decisions.
The position will also involve managing framework opportunities, producing pipeline and opportunity reports, attending client meetings, site visits and industry events, and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have a strong background in Business Development within the construction industry , ideally working for a recognised main contractor or comparable organisation.
You should have an established network within the London and South East construction market , with a proven track record of developing client relationships and identifying opportunities that lead to sustainable business growth.
A strong private-sector background is required, while experience working with public-sector clients, construction frameworks and/or affordable housing would be advantageous.
You will need to be commercially astute, confident engaging with senior clients and consultants, and capable of assessing opportunities based on commercial, technical and operational risk.
A relevant degree or substantial experience within a comparable Business Development position is required, alongside a full UK driving licence .
