The role: Due to some major project awards the need has arisen to recruit for 2 Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team heading up Kent's construction contracts. These Assistant Quantity Surveyor roles will expose the successful hires to a wide range of construction projects and within this multi-disciplinary UK top 20 Tier 1 main contractor you will be working closely with the pre-construction, design, delivery and wider commercial teams. As the Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will be supporting the Quantity Surveyor and Senior Surveyors with the commercial management of projects, while developing your experience and progress towards taking on the management of subcontract packages and eventually your own projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Quantity Surveyor in the commercial management of projects and work packages.
  • Assist with the procurement of subcontractors (preparation of enquiry documentation, tender analysis and evaluation).
  • Prepare and issue subcontract documentation, including terms, prices and programmes.
  • Manage subcontract work packages (interim assessments, payments, variations and change).
  • Measurement and valuations of works from drawings and site records.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of monthly client valuations/applications.
  • Assist with the preparation of commercial and contractual notices to clients and subcontractors.
  • Change management in accordance with the relevant form of contract, including preparation of compensation event quotations where applicable.
  • Maintain detailed schedules of value and subcontractor liabilities.
  • Assist with the preparation of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and monthly commercial reports.
  • Produce and maintain detailed cost plans, monitoring expenditure and forecasting costs to complete.
  • Review and critically assess expenditure reports produced by internal cost-management systems.
  • Use commercial systems to report cost and value accurately.
  • Liaise with site teams to ensure records are maintained.
  • Attend client, subcontractor and supply-chain meetings.
  • Monitor commercial risks and assist in identifying opportunities to maximise value and protect project margin.
  • Support the commercial team with project mobilisation and ongoing commercial governance.
  • Work collaboratively with Pre-Construction, Design and Delivery teams.
  • Assist with weekly progress and risk-reduction meetings and provide commercial information for client reporting.
