The role:

Due to consistent project awards, the need has arisen to recruit for 2 Senior Quantity Surveyors to join the commercial team heading up main contractor construction contracts. As an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the commercial delivery of projects (usually 2 smaller schemes and a larger project up to £10m) from tender through to final account, taking responsibility for commercial control, subcontract packages, risk, reporting and contractual matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage all commercial aspects from tender through to final account.
  • Produce and issue commercial/contractual notices.
  • Manage subcontract work packages.
  • Carry out interim assessments and manage subsequent change.
  • Lead commercial risk management, identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Produce and present detailed monthly reports and CVRs.
  • Produce and maintain detailed Cost Plans.
  • Track and forecast expenditure.
  • Maintain detailed subcontractor liability schedules.
  • Manage procurement and subcontract negotiations.
  • Monitor project financial performance.
  • Work closely with project and operational teams.
  • Develop and mentor junior Quantity Surveyors.

About you:

This advert is aimed at an experienced commercial professional with strong construction-sector experience and successful candidates will have:

  • A stable CV
  • Extensive experience working within the building sector of the construction industry for a main contractor.
  • Experience of Design & Build projects.
  • Good understanding of construction processes and commercial management.
  • Knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC.
  • Experience with subcontract procurement and package management.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with commercial/cost-management systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider project team.
  • A relevant degree and/or practical experience in a commercial construction environment.
  • Professional membership of RICS or CIOB, with MRICS/MCIOB or equivalent professional qualification advantageous.
