Job Purpose

To provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a variety of settings including hospitals, care homes, GP surgeries, or community environments. The Registered General Nurse ensures the physical and emotional well‑being of patients by assessing their needs, implementing care plans, and monitoring outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with NMC guidelines and clinical protocols.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and symptoms.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and deteriorating patients.

Clinical Duties

  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date clinical records.
  • Assist in diagnostic tests and follow treatment plans.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Maintain infection control standards and health & safety compliance.

Communication & Advocacy

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Educate patients and families on health conditions and post‑treatment care.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights and best interests.

Professional Standards

  • Adhere to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
  • Participate in audits, training, and continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Supervise and support junior staff or healthcare assistants as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Valid NMC registration (Nursing and Midwifery Council – UK).

Experience

  • Experience in acute, community, or elderly care settings (varies depending on the role).
  • Newly qualified nurses may be accepted for certain roles with preceptorship support.
