Senior Carers provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to individuals in settings such as care homes, hospitals, and community environments. In addition to delivering hands-on care, they take on supervisory responsibilities, ensuring care standards are maintained, supporting junior staff, and assisting in the coordination of care services. Senior Carers play a key role in promoting the health, safety, dignity, and wellbeing of service users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient/Service User Care
    • Assist individuals with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility
    • Promote independence, dignity, and person-centred care at all times
    • Provide emotional and physical support to service users
    • Monitor, observe, and report any changes in health or behaviour to senior clinical staff
    • Support with medication administration in line with training and company policies
  • Clinical & Care Support
    • Assist with basic clinical tasks such as recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse)
    • Support care planning by contributing to assessments and reviews
    • Ensure care plans are followed accurately by all staff
  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Supervise, guide, and support Healthcare Assistants and junior care staff
    • Lead shifts and ensure appropriate staffing and task allocation
    • Provide mentoring, training support, and performance feedback to team members
    • Act as a point of contact between staff and management
  • Medical & Team Support
    • Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals
    • Assist in preparing equipment and supporting care procedures
    • Ensure accurate documentation of care and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Hygiene & Safety
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for service users
    • Follow infection prevention and control procedures
    • Ensure all health and safety and safeguarding policies are adhered to
  • Administrative & Communication Duties
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date care records and reports
    • Communicate effectively with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams
    • Assist in care coordination, appointments, and service delivery planning
    • Ensure confidentiality and data protection standards are upheld
  • Training & Development
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
    • Support the training and induction of new staff
    • Stay informed on best practices and regulatory requirements in care

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (Level 3 preferred)
  • Medication administration training (desirable)
  • Previous experience in a care setting, with leadership or senior role experience preferred
  • Good understanding of care standards, safeguarding, and health and safety
