About Skarper
Skarper is changing the way people ride bikes.
We've developed DiskDrive, an innovative clip-on system that turns a regular bicycle into an eBike in seconds. Our product is already in production, and we're developing new connected features, accessories and next-generation hardware.
We're a small, ambitious engineering team building real products used by real customers.
The opportunity
We're looking for a Firmware Engineer with at least 3 years of professional experience to join our engineering team in London.
You'll work across embedded firmware development, hardware integration, testing and quality assurance, taking ownership of projects from concept through to delivery.
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility from day one. You'll have the support of an experienced team, but we expect you to show initiative, make technical decisions and take ownership of your work.
We're looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who is proactive, resourceful and excited to make an impact.
What you'll be working on
- Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for ARM-based microcontrollers and real-time operating systems.
- Develop BLE connectivity, connected features and over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates.
- Write firmware for new hardware, including sensors, motor controllers and accessories.
- Work with hardware engineers and external partners on board bring-up, debugging and validation.
- Own firmware quality, develop test specifications and improve QA processes.
- Build Python-based test automation, test rigs and production testing tools.
- Support compliance with relevant cybersecurity, Bluetooth and functional safety standards.
- Investigate field issues and deliver firmware improvements.
- Contribute to CI automation and firmware release processes.
What we're looking for
- At least 3 years of professional embedded firmware development experience.
- Strong embedded C and Python programming skills.
- Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers and RTOS development.
- Experience with BLE or similar wireless protocols.
- Practical experience with firmware testing, debugging and laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows.
- A proactive, independent approach and willingness to take ownership.
- Willingness to travel internationally, including to China and Israel, to work with our engineering and manufacturing partners.
- Familiarity with modern AI tools
Nice to have
- C++, bootloaders and OTA updates.
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing and CI/CD.
- Experience with embedded software standards and regulatory compliance.
- Motor control, sensors or connected consumer products.
- An interest in cycling or eBikes.
We value strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity and initiative over experience with any particular platform.
How we work
We're a small team where everyone makes a real contribution. You'll have the freedom to solve problems, propose solutions and own your projects, supported by experienced engineers across firmware, electronics, mechanical design and app development.
We embrace modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted coding and research, and expect engineers to use these tools thoughtfully while taking full responsibility for their work.
We care less about how many years you've worked and more about what you've built, the problems you've solved and the responsibility you're ready to take.
