We are looking for a Gas Combustion Engineer to join the team on our Kent County Council project based in West Malling, Kent.
ResponsibilitiesSkanska is recruiting an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to be our first-line engineer across multiple sites. You will install, maintain, inspect and repair commercial gas systems and associated heating plant, ensuring all work is safe, compliant with current regulations and delivered to Skanska’s high standards while building strong customer relationships.
- Installations, commissioning and project works: Install, commission and hand over commercial gas appliances, plant rooms and heating systems. Undertake installation work for refurbishments and new-build projects and provide technical input on circuit/controls modifications.
- Maintenance, diagnostics and safety compliance: Deliver planned preventative maintenance, routine servicing, breakdown response and emergency repairs. Diagnose faults, carry out corrective actions and complete statutory gas safety checks and certifications (e.g., CP42, CP15).
- Reactive response and on-call support: Respond to reactive call-outs and participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota as required to maintain site safety and service continuity.
- Documentation, reporting and asset management: Complete accurate job reports, records and digital paperwork in a timely manner. Determine required spares/components and update circuit and asset records following works.
- Customer engagement and stakeholder collaboration: Liaise effectively with clients, colleagues and supply chain partners to coordinate works and deliver projects on schedule. Advise customers on system improvements, energy‑efficiency opportunities and recommended upgrades.
- Essential Commercial gas engineering qualifications (e.g., CODNCO1, CIGA1, CORT1, ICPN1, TPCP1/1A) or equivalent.
- Valid Gas Safe registration or eligibility.
- Proven experience working across multiple commercial sites (schools, offices, warehouses, industrial facilities).
- Strong knowledge of commercial heating, ventilation, hot water systems, boilers and associated controls.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent fault‑finding, problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and coordination skills when working with customers and contractors.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Desirable: Additional qualifications such as F‑Gas, LPG or electrical competence.
