You will be working in the HS2 Main Works SCS Environment & Sustainability team where we are responsible for supporting the construction phase of the HS2 Main Works Civils Contract within the London area, providing strategic oversight to achieving client, programme and parent company objectives & targets. The Senior Sustainability and Carbon Advisor role is focused on climate change & carbon (GHG) emissions, resource efficiency & circular economy. The role sits in the core sustainability team, reporting to the Sustainability and Carbon Lead and supports the project’s delivery units as needed to deliver excellent environmental sustainability performance.
Responsibilities
- In-depth understanding of the carbon- & resource-related parts of the SCS Environment & Sustainability strategy and hands-on collaboration with various disciplines and teams within SCS for its delivery.
- Key action areas include:
- Concrete optimisation
- Sustainable steel sourcing
- Energy & fuel efficiency for construction plant and activities
- More sustainable products and practices overall
Qualifications
- Background in engineering, science or environmental studies.
- Acumen of climate change and wider sustainability topics: decarbonisation over the life cycle of projects, resource efficiency, circular economy, design for durability, deconstruction and re-use, renewable energy & alternative fuels, sustainable solutions in the context of construction
- Experience in working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, taking a collaborative approach
- Set up & delivery of sustainability and carbon management processes
- Conversant in carbon accounting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), preferably for the construction industry
