Skanska, one of the world’s leading project development and construction groups, is an inclusive and responsible business that is helping to build a better society. We are looking for a Planning Manager to join our Building Operating Unit, supporting major defence projects.
As the Planning Manager you will lead the planning function and team on a major defence project, responsible for constructing and managing the production and implementation of the fully integrated complex master programme.
What you’ll do:
- Manage the overall planning function and process, maintaining a proactive and professional service to the planning, bid and project teams working to the guidelines of the planning and programming strategic plan.
- Construct complex programmes from first principles using drawings, models or processes. Produce supporting methodologies. Identify and test different methodologies/ways of delivering the work.
- Establish the short‑term planning approach for the project, defining roles and responsibilities.
- Work with the estimating team to develop a common Cost Breakdown Structure for a project or framework of projects and establish and apply this framework within the programme.
- Work with the commercial team to develop/address any claims that we need to raise against suppliers or customers. Ensure adequate records are kept throughout the duration of the project. Clearly present impact of delays/claims programmes.
- Make strategic planning decisions (resources, logistics, etc.) across the project. Develop the strategy for the delivery of a framework/group of projects.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Demonstratable experience of delivering the planning function on major construction projects – specifically defence.
- Demonstrable experience of different forms of contract including NEC, JCT, MPTC etc.
- Excellent working knowledge of Planning Software (Primavera and/or Asta Powerproject).
- HNC/Degree qualification (or equivalent) in a construction related subject or trade qualifications.
- Significant construction site experience, complemented by knowledge of the design process. Able to develop construction methodologies and recognise temporary works requirements/constraints. Challenge methodologies/programmes developed by others.
Security Clearance
This role requires a minimum level of security clearance and may also require a higher level of National Security Vetting. You should be aware that certain levels of clearance or specific projects and/or sites have UK residency requirements; and any dual or multiple nationalities must be declared. Any persons who do not fulfil these residency requirements may be unable to obtain the required level of clearance and would not be eligible to undertake this role.
