JOB SUMMARY
Commitment to training and knowledge development is a key element of the strategy for Skadden. This role will be crucial in supporting each of our practice groups to plan and run the legal technical training required to equip our lawyers to do a great job for our clients and to support them in their careers at Skadden.
FOCUS AND KEY ASPECTS
You will work with the London Knowledge and Training Lead, Knowledge Strategy Assistant, Attorney Development Training team and key stakeholders in each practice group (including training champions, Professional Support Lawyers, Practice Attorneys and Executive Assistants as relevant) to help design and implement their technical legal training plans. The role will suit someone who is proactive, organized and detail-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will also need a passion for knowledge and quality and a proactive and pragmatic approach.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Planning and designing practice group specific legal technical training
- Work with the London Knowledge and Training Lead, Knowledge Strategy Assistant and key stakeholders in each practice group to plan their approach to legal technical training for the year.
- Agreeing which sessions should be run and what level of seniority each should be aimed at
- Agreeing speakers and timing/frequency
- Suggesting external trainers/courses/content and ideas as relevant
- Ensuring plan is within budget (where trainers cannot be sourced internally)
- Agreeing approach/programme for new joiners and trainees
- Helping to plan session structure including use of polls or other interactive technology and approach to recording and reuse of each session.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of programming across practice groups to facilitate information sharing and best practices.
- Identify and recommend relevant training opportunities and resources, including cross-practice and cross-office initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with key contacts, training champions, Executive Assistants, Professional Support Lawyers, and Practice Attorneys to proactively manage and support training programmes.
- Project management, logistics and administration
- Coordinate the training diary and tracker to make programme transparent and avoid clashes.
- Coordinate all aspects of training sessions, including liaising with, and booking speakers, reserving rooms, and arranging catering.
- Set up hybrid training options via Webex and Zoom.
- Distribute communications and invitations for training events.
- Manage and track participant registrations, attendance and waitlists.
- Prepare and distribute session materials and handouts.
- Process invoices and monitor training-related expenses.
- Liaise with Attorney Development Training team to help ensure compliance with CLE accreditation requirements for New York and other US bars and upload material required for learning and development records.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills.
- Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment
- Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team
- Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience of working in a professional services environment.
- Experience working in training and development or knowledge beneficial but not essential.
- Candidate must be able to demonstrate an interest in learning and development and knowledge sharing.
