We are seeking a competent and detail-oriented Ophthalmology Scrub Nurse to assist in eye surgeries and maintain a sterile surgical environment. The role involves preparing instruments, supporting ophthalmic surgeons during procedures, and ensuring patient safety throughout surgical interventions.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare the operating theatre for ophthalmic surgeries, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and ready.
- Assist the ophthalmic surgeon during surgical procedures, including cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, retinal procedures, and corneal transplants.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques and monitor sterile fields.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and provide timely instruments, sutures, and consumables.
- Count, track, and document surgical instruments, needles, and swabs before, during, and after procedures.
- Prepare and handle surgical specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure proper sterilization, maintenance, and storage of ophthalmic surgical instruments.
- Support post-operative patient care and help prepare the theatre for subsequent procedures.
- Document surgical procedures accurately and assist in audit and quality improvement activities.
- Participate in continuing education and stay updated on new ophthalmic surgical techniques and equipment.
- Diploma or degree in Nursing (Registered Nurse / RN).
- Valid nursing license to practice.
- 12 months NHS (UK) hospital experience as a scrub nurse, preferably in ophthalmology or eye surgery.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic surgical instruments, sterile techniques, and operating theatre protocols.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff.
