Legal Assistant – Contentious Probate

SJC Recruiting is working on behalf of a well-established law firm seeking an enthusiastic and organised Legal Assistant to join its Litigation team at its head office in Knaresborough.
This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with a senior solicitor on a varied caseload of contentious probate matters. The successful candidate will provide essential legal and administrative support while developing valuable experience within this specialist area of litigation.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting a senior solicitor with contentious probate matters
- Preparing and formatting correspondence, legal documents and court forms
- Opening, maintaining and closing client files
- Communicating professionally with clients, solicitors, courts and other third parties
- Managing diaries, appointments and important case deadlines
- Organising documents, evidence and case files
- Carrying out legal and factual research where required
- Recording time and assisting with billing and administrative tasks
- Maintaining client confidentiality and complying with the firm’s procedures
- Providing general support to the wider Litigation team
The ideal candidate will:
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be highly organised, accurate and attentive to detail
- Be able to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines
- Have a professional, approachable and sensitive manner when dealing with clients
- Work well both independently and as part of a team
- Be confident using Microsoft Office and case-management systems
Experience in litigation, wills and probate, or contentious probate would be an advantage but is not essential for the right candidate.
