Family Law Secretary
Location: Huddersfield, Barnsley, South Elmsall or Leeds

SJC Partners is recruiting on behalf of a growing and well-established law firm seeking an experienced Family Law Secretary to join its supportive, close-knit family team.

The role may be based at the firm’s Huddersfield, Barnsley, South Elmsall or Leeds office. Please note that an initial two-week training period will take place at the Barnsley office.

You will provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to the firm’s family law team, helping lawyers deliver an excellent standard of service to clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing typing and administrative support to fee earners in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Arranging new client appointments
  • Answering telephone calls and communicating with clients, solicitors and other external contacts
  • Using digital dictation and the firm’s case management system
  • Assisting with the creation and maintenance of precedents
  • Attending regular team meetings and suggesting improvements to administrative processes
  • Liaising with other members of the administration team
  • Maintaining the confidentiality and security of client and firm information
  • Undertaking other reasonable administrative duties when required

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within a family law department at a firm of solicitors, or other closely related experience
  • Strong typing and digital dictation skills
  • A professional and confident telephone manner
  • Excellent organisation and workload-management skills
  • The ability to prioritise work for multiple fee earners
  • A high level of autonomy and self-motivation
  • A proactive, efficient and flexible approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate empathetically with clients
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit team
