Legal Cashier / Accounts Manager

A long-established, family-run law firm based in Staveley, Chesterfield is seeking an experienced Legal Cashier / Accounts Manager to join its friendly and approachable team.
This is a varied and responsible position that would suit someone with several years’ bookkeeping or accounts experience. Previous experience within a legal practice would be preferred, although it is not essential.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the firm’s day-to-day accounts and help ensure that its financial records, processes and controls are accurate, efficient and compliant.
Key responsibilities
- Managing the firm’s day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities
- Processing receipts and payments across client and office accounts
- Completing regular bank reconciliations
- Managing purchase and sales ledgers
- Preparing and processing invoices
- Monitoring outstanding balances and assisting with credit control
- Processing supplier payments and staff expenses
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records
- Assisting with payroll, VAT returns and management reporting where required
- Liaising with the firm’s external accountants and auditors
- Ensuring compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules and internal procedures
- Supporting the management team with financial information and general administrative matters
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, processes and controls
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the firm’s offices
About you:
- Several years’ bookkeeping, accounts or legal cashiering experience
- A sound understanding of bookkeeping principles and reconciliations
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Confidence using accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- The ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
- A professional, discreet and dependable approach
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues at all levels
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a supportive team
Experience within a law firm and knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules would be advantageous but are not essential, provided you have strong bookkeeping experience and are willing to learn.
