The Senior Geo‑environmental Consultant will play a key role in the delivery of contaminated land and geo‑environmental services across a range of development and infrastructure projects. The role combines high‑quality technical delivery with project management, client engagement and mentoring, supporting RBG’s reputation for trusted, commercially focused advice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a technical lead on projects
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting clients through planning, risk management and delivery stages

Duties:

  • Technical & Project Delivery:
    • Lead and deliver Phase 1 Desk Studies, Preliminary Risk Assessments (PRA) and Phase 2 Ground Investigations
    • Develop and refine Conceptual Site Models (CSMs) using source–pathway–receptor frameworks
    • Undertake and review qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (including CLEA, GQRA, and DQRA where appropriate)
    • Design, specify and manage intrusive ground investigations, including contractor supervision
    • Interpret soil, groundwater and ground gas data, producing clear proportionate interpretative reports
    • Contribute to remediation option appraisals, remediation strategies and verification reporting
  • Project, Commercial & Client Management:
    • Manage multiple geo‑environmental commissions, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality expectations
    • Coordinate internal multidisciplinary inputs (geotechnical, structural, sustainability) and external specialists
    • Support fee proposals, scope development and change control
    • Apply commercial awareness and pragmatic risk management to project decision‑making
    • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, planners, regulators and wider project teams
  • Leadership & Development:
    • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to junior consultants
    • Review and quality‑check reports and technical outputs
    • Promote RBG’s safety culture, quality standards and collaborative ways of working

What We Are Looking For:

  • Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences or a related discipline
  • Strong consultancy experience in geo‑environmental / contaminated land services
  • Good working knowledge of the UK planning regime and contaminated land legislation and guidance
  • Proven experience managing site investigations and producing high‑quality technical reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Chartered or working towards chartership (e.g. CGeol, CEnv, CSci)
  • Experience supporting complex or constrained development sites
  • Exposure to remediation design, verification or environmental due diligence
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Technically strong with a pragmatic, proportionate approach to risk
