SJ Finance Services is an independent financial modelling and FP&A consultancy working with PE-backed businesses, professional services firms, and other SMEs in the lower mid market. Small team, high-quality technical work, direct client exposure from day one.
You’ll be building and owning integrated three-statement financial models, working directly with the MD and engaging with clients across multiple sectors. One week you might be building a consolidation model across nine SPVs with live Xero feeds; the next, running sensitivity scenarios for a covenant reporting pack or stress-testing a five-year forecast for a funding round.
- Build and maintain integrated three-statement models (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) that balance under stress.
- Write dynamic array formulas and LAMBDA functions to keep models scalable.
- Use Power Query to pull live data from Xero, QuickBooks, and other sources.
- Run scenario and sensitivity analysis for funding submissions, covenant reporting, and board packs.
- Review and improve existing client models.
- Join client calls, manage your own delivery, and gradually take ownership of relationships.
- Contribute to Flow, our Power Query-based Xero-Excel connector.
Requirements:
- Solid grasp of double-entry bookkeeping.
- Demonstrable experience building three-statement models that genuinely balance.
- Strong Excel: dynamic arrays (LET, LAMBDA, BYCOL, MAP, SCAN, REDUCE) and Power Query.
- Confident dealing with clients directly.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or working towards).
- Experience with Xero, QuickBooks, or similar cloud accounting platforms.
- Background in PE-backed businesses, consultancy, or M&A advisory.
- Familiarity with Office Scripts, Power Automate.
- Experience preparing models for bank, PE, or debt funding submissions.
Location: Based on the Wirral, with regular work in Liverpool. Hybrid is ideal if you’re local. Fully remote also works if you’re UK-based and can travel for client meetings when needed.
Salary: £45,000 to £65,000 base depending on experience, plus performance-related bonus, pension contribution, genuine technical development at the sharp end of modern Excel, direct exposure to founders, FDs, and PE-backed leadership teams, flexible hours and trust to manage your own time.
