Job Purpose / Overview
The Sizewell C Project requires a Head of Ancillary Works to manage the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Handover of Structures and Components, ensuring that their scope is delivered safely, to quality, on time and within cost parameters for their respective scope in accordance with the overall SZC Project schedule.
Reporting to the Main Civil Works (MCW) Programme Manager, the Head of Delivery is responsible for the direction and leadership of all activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of the Main Civil Works (MCW) elements assigned to them which are the Main Civils for Unit 1 and 2. Within a matrix organisation, the role holder will have responsibility to lead/manage a team of Project Managers and functional support to ensure delivery of the associated assets, structures and components, up to a capital value of £1.2 billion.
In addition to the Project Managers who will directly report to them, the Head of Delivery will have to engage and interface with a matrix team of other disciplines forming the project delivery team e.g.: the SZC supply chain team, the Responsible Designer (RD), the NI programme, the SZC quality team, PMO and stakeholders. The Head of NI Delivery will sit in the Civil Works Alliance Delivery Team and the SZC Client Programme Management Team with cross‑functional responsibilities.
Contextual Information
The SZC construction programme has a technical and commercial business case predicated on technical intelligent replication of Hinkley Point C. EDF will be an important supplier of nuclear capability for the SZC Programme from its established nuclear business footprint in the UK. The Civil Works Programme comprises a series of sub‑programmes (Early Works and Enabling, Main Civil risk; schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools. Close out of commercial claims and the associated negotiations.
Experience Required
- Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation.
- Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.
- Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment, including NEC and FIDIC contracts.
- Experience of working with Alliances and Joint Ventures.
- Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Experience working in programme of works with multi nationalities and cultures, but not essential.
- Degree and/or chartered status in an engineering, construction, project management or other related field.
- Good knowledge and experience of CDM Regulations.
- Knowledge and/or practitioner of Project Management with experience of applying either APM body of knowledge and OGC's Prince 2.
- Can demonstrate experience of managing project through the project lifecycle from concept to handover.
- Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
- Understand how to apply a graded approach to quality.
