Senior Commercial Manager - Civil Works Programme

Contract Type: Permanent -Office-based with hybridflexibility(typically 3 days p/w in the office)

Working Pattern: Full time

Closing Date: Friday 4th September 2026

Location: London

Salary: Circa Β£82,000 depending on experience

Bonus: 5% annual incentive
Pension: Up to 7.5% employee contribution / 15% employer contribution
Holiday: 28 days plus bank holidays

About the Role

Reporting To: Commercial Lead - Civil Works, As Senior Commercial Manager you will support the effective implementation of the Programme Alliance Agreement (PAA) - a multi billion pound, multi party alliancing contract - across Sizewell C (SZC) processes, systems and teams.

The role will focus on assisting in the identification and resolution of interface gaps between PAA contractual requirements and SZC functional processes, providing expert advice to Commercial teams and functions, developing contract management guidance, and training, and supporting the use and development of the Unifier contract administration tool.

This role suits a big picture thinker-someone who can evaluate options, risks and consequences to shape effective solutions. Working proactively with functions such as design, project controls (cost, programme, risk), delivery, legal, land, consents, environment and sustainability, site operations, health and safety, quality and document control, the Senior Commercial Manager brings clarity, alignment and confident decision making to high pressure, fast moving environments. The role ensures robust governance, identifies gaps in contracts, policies and procedures, and strengthens commercial controls across the programme.

Key Responsibilities

The scope of this role evolves and is guided by the challenges faced by SZC and their contractor teams. Current key responsibilities include assisting the Commercial Lead in the following areas:

PAA Contract Management

  • Acting as a subject matter expert on the PAA.
  • Identifying and resolving gaps between contractual requirements and SZC processes.
  • Providing practical commercial advice to contractor teams and functions.
  • Supporting consistent contract administration and governance across the programme.
  • Promoting dispute avoidance through proactive issue resolution.

Training, Guidance and Capability

  • Developing training materials, guidance and templates for the use of the PAA.
  • Producing and supporting roll-out of the Contract Management Manual.
  • Delivering training and coaching to commercial and functional teams.
  • Embedding consistent contract management standards across the SZC Civils programme.

Systems and Process Improvement

  • Supporting the development of the Unifier contract administration platform .
  • Ensuring commercial processes, controls and workflows are embedded effectively.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, transparency and data quality.

Post-Award Contract Management

  • Driving supplier performance and commercial governance.
  • Mitigating risks and resolve commercial issues.
  • Supporting proactive dispute avoidance.
  • Providing strategic oversight across the relevant portfolio.

What the candidate will bring

  • Senior-level experience in commercial or supply chain roles on major infrastructure, energy, nuclear or complex regulated projects.
  • Strong procurement and post-contract management experience.
  • Good understanding of dispute avoidance and issue resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of Alliance, NEC and/or FIDIC contracts.
  • Experience with alliance or target cost contracts would be advantageous.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex contractual requirements into practical guidance and processes.

Education and Professional qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, civil engineering, law, construction or project management or equivalent.
  • Professional qualifications such as MCIPS, MRICS, MCIArb, MAPM, MCIOB or equivalent are preferred.
