The Role: We are seeking a Hazards Safety Case Engineer to join the Sizewell C Design Authority. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and resilience of one of the UK’s most significant energy projects, leading the assessment of internal and external hazards and developing robust safety solutions to support construction, commissioning, and operation of new nuclear reactors. You will oversee the resolution of site-specific safety case topics, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence. As the Intelligent Customer for hazards and safety case topics on behalf of Sizewell C, you will provide expert insights and act as a trusted authority. A core part of your role will be engaging with stakeholders—explaining and demonstrating how the power station is safeguarded against risks. Strong collaboration skills will be essential as you work with internal teams and external partners, including the nuclear regulator.
Responsibilities
- Lead the assessment of internal and external hazards for Sizewell C.
- Develop robust safety solutions to support construction, commissioning, and operation of the nuclear reactors.
- Oversee the resolution of site-specific safety case topics, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
- Act as the Intelligent Customer for hazards and safety case topics on behalf of Sizewell C, providing expert insights.
- Engage with stakeholders to explain and demonstrate how the power station is safeguarded against risks.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including the nuclear regulator.
Qualifications
- Previous experience of Hazard Safety Cases.
- Understanding of nuclear safety.
- A motivated, self-starting, dynamic engineer with the ability to work independently across multiple disciplines and organisational levels.
- Excellent organisation and communication skills with the ability to work autonomously.
- A drive to develop professionally and to drive continual improvement within the organisation.
- A degree, or equivalent experience in Engineering, science, or a related field is essential.

- Employment basis: Permanent; full-time position.
- Working pattern: Office-based contract model with hybrid working where possible. Based within reasonable travel distance of the office and able to attend in person when required; flexibility to be on site when needed is essential.
- Salary: From £45,000 – £75,000, dependent on experience. Bonus up to 5%, pension up to 15% employee contributions, and other benefits including health care screening, electric vehicle leasing, product discounts, critical illness insurance, gym membership, season ticket loans, and more.
