Sizewell C is seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager to play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, compliant and high performing construction delivery, particularly during out of hours operations, including late shifts, nights and weekends. This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role where your expertise will directly influence the safety culture and performance of a major national project.
The Opportunity
You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Engineering Leads, Construction Leads and Tier 1 Contractor teams to ensure all legislative, company, and site specific safety requirements are fully addressed. You’ll also support the SZC Head of Safety & Wellbeing in ensuring that residual risks passed to the Principal Contractor are properly mitigated and controlled. This role overlaps with day shift teams to support planning, coordination and continuity ensuring safe delivery across a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Influence Leadership to embed health and safety considerations throughout construction planning and execution.
- Foster Collaboration across SZC, NNB and Tier 1 partners to deliver EDF’s vision of zero harm.
- Provide Expert Advice on accident prevention, ill health reduction and practical implementation of project standards.
- Assure CDM Compliance across Principal Contractor and Tier 1 organisations.
- Participate in Constructability Reviews as a subject matter expert under CDM 2015.
- Drive Supply Chain Performance during pre-planning and delivery.
- Demonstrate Visible Leadership aligned with CDM Regulation 13.
- Lead and Develop HSW Advisors to ensure a competent, high performing team.
Nuclear Safety Responsibilities:
Some responsibilities may directly influence nuclear safety. These are defined within the Nuclear Baseline and form part of the role’s accountability.
Dimensions of the Role:
- Direct reports to the Senior HSW Manager, with responsibility for team performance and development.
- Influence over health and safety professionals across the project supply chain.
- Involvement across pre-construction, construction delivery, and commissioning.
- Support for multiple multidisciplinary teams and Tier 1 contractors with large workforces.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Essential Skills:
- Ability to build strong networks across EDF and the wider construction industry.
- Results driven with a collaborative mindset.
- Skilled at operating within large, complex corporate environments.
- Excellent communication and strategic leadership abilities.
- Strong knowledge of national and international HSE standards, ONR/HSE interfaces, CDM Regulations, and major infrastructure construction.
Desirable Skills:
- Understanding of ONR Licence Conditions.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Significant HSE experience in large project environments.
- Minimum NEBOSH qualification with 5+ years’ experience.
- Chartered membership of a recognised HSE body (or working toward).
- Proven track record of delivering excellent safety outcomes.
- Experience in process plant, large organisational operations, and behavioural safety leadership.
Desirable Qualifications:
- NEBOSH HSE Diploma or European equivalent.
- Higher education in Engineering, Construction, or Nuclear Safety/Culture.
