A leadership role at the heart of transformation. Sizewell C is moving through one of the most complex and visible transformations in UK infrastructure. We are building a new organisation, establishing our own identity, welcoming new shareholders, and shifting from legacy ways of working into a fully independent company with a clear purpose and strong culture.
This is a senior, high impact role for a confident and resilient leader who is comfortable operating in change, able to challenge constructively, and trusted to advise at Executive and Board level. You will shape how our people experience Sizewell C, how they understand our direction, and how our brand comes to life internally and externally during a period of constant evolution.
The role:
- Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will own and lead the internal communications and engagement strategy for Sizewell C and act as a guardian of the SZC brand alongside the Director of External Communications.
- You will be the executive editor for all internal communications, setting standards, tone and narrative across the organisation.
- You will also play a central role in change and crisis communications, ensuring clarity, confidence and consistency at moments that matter.
This role works closely with the Director of External Communications, HR Director and Deputy Director of Corporate Operations and is a critical partner in shaping culture, engagement and organisational alignment.
What you will be responsible for:
- Own and deliver the internal communications and engagement strategy for Sizewell C.
- Lead all internal communications campaigns, ensuring they support strategic and operational priorities.
- Act as a trusted adviser to Executive leaders on internal communications, engagement and change.
- Retain final sign off on all internal communications content including internal digital channels, newsletters and leadership updates.
- Ensure internal and external communications are fully aligned, particularly during periods of change or heightened risk.
- Support crisis communications activity and manage reputational risk internally.
Brand and transformation:
- Lead the programme to shape, evolve and embed the Sizewell C brand during a period of rebranding and organisational transition.
- Develop and deliver a clear brand strategy aligned to corporate strategy and communications strategy.
- Create compelling narratives and messaging that resonate with internal and external audiences.
- Define and maintain brand positioning, architecture and tone of voice.
- Ensure brand consistency across all channels, materials and touchpoints.
Employee engagement and culture:
- Work closely with HR team and culture leads to strengthen employee engagement and internal alignment.
- Ensure employees, contractors and partners understand and connect with the Sizewell C vision and values.
- Embed the brand consistently across internal communications, learning, onboarding and employee experience.
- Build a strong community of brand advocates across the organisation.
Leadership and governance:
- Lead and develop a team of 3 to 4 direct reports.
- Manage external agencies and partners, ensuring quality, value and impact.
- Track performance through meaningful KPIs and provide clear insight and recommendations to senior leaders.
The environment you will be working in:
Sizewell C has transitioned from being part of EDF into a standalone organisation with new shareholders, new governance and a rapidly evolving operating model. Many colleagues are transferring from partner organisations or joining from across industry. This is a complex, high pressure environment with strong opinions, demanding stakeholders and constant change. Success in this role requires resilience, flexibility and the confidence to operate calmly and decisively when priorities shift.
What we are looking for:
- You will bring significant senior level experience in internal communications, engagement and brand leadership within complex, high profile organisations.
- You will be comfortable operating at Executive and Board level, with the credibility to influence and challenge.
- Experienced in leading communications through change, transformation and rebranding.
- Confident handling sensitive issues, reputational risk and crisis communications.
- A strong writer who can turn complex, technical information into clear, compelling messages.
- A leader who sets high standards, supports their team and is not afraid to make difficult decisions.
- Collaborative, open and grounded, with the resilience to thrive in a fast moving and politically complex environment.
- Experience working with major programmes, infrastructure, or similarly regulated sectors is highly desirable.
Why join Sizewell C:
This is a rare opportunity to shape the internal voice, culture and identity of one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. You will have genuine influence, exposure to senior decision makers, and the chance to leave a lasting legacy on an organisation that will operate for decades to come.
If you are a strong, adaptable leader who enjoys complexity and wants to play a defining role in a major national project, we would like to hear from you.
Additional Information:
Join the team at Sizewell C. Our vision is to Lead The Way On Nuclear. The Sizewell C team is one of the most exciting and largest new megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy.
We have begun constructing a 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast in the East of England replicating, wherever possible, the design used for Hinkley Point C, another nuclear power station being built in Somerset. When built, Sizewell C will be one of the largest power stations to operate in the UK. The power station will generate low carbon electricity for at least 60 years, supplying over 6 million homes and supporting around 7% of the UK’s current electricity needs.
Our vision is to Lead The Way On Nuclear. We want Sizewell C to define what good leadership for the nuclear industry and British infrastructure looks like and deliver on it.
We understand the feats of organisation, logistics, collaboration and imagination that building nuclear requires. We are building for the next generation for their home-grown energy, energy price stability and ultra-low carbon power in abundance. We also want to set the benchmark for maximising long-lasting social value as we build and demonstrate how smart collaboration can work for the benefit of communities – locally, regionally and nationally.
We are the first nuclear power station in the UK to be funded under the Regulated Asset Base funding model (RAB). Our largest shareholder is the UK Government, alongside equity partners La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.
Sizewell C operates within a complex and fast-moving stakeholder environment, engaging with a wide range of partners including government bodies, regulators, local communities, supply chain partners, and international collaborators. This makes Sizewell C a uniquely stimulating place to work — where navigating evolving priorities, balancing interests, and building trusted relationships is just as critical as technical excellence.
For those who thrive in dynamic, multi-dimensional settings, it offers unmatched professional challenge and growth.
When joining Sizewell C, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.
At Sizewell C we encourage and embrace diversity and how it can improve our experience and performance at work.
It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility that we can explore, we are fully committed to local recruitment where possible, and those already holding the right to work in the UK.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
By submitting an application to this role, you acknowledge that you have read and understood Sizewell C’s employee privacy policy and EDF's employee privacy policy.
Just to let you know, EDF will be processing and sharing information about your application on behalf of Sizewell C.
