If you’re early in your project management career and want more than just another assistant role, this is a standout opportunity. Sizewell C is building the next generation of nuclear power in the UK. It’s complex, high profile, and will operate for decades. That means long-term careers, not short-term projects.

As an Assistant Project Manager within our Civil Works team, you’ll be right at the heart of delivery, learning from experienced leaders while taking on real responsibility from day one. This role is designed as a stepping stone. For the right person, there is clear scope to grow into a full Project Manager role as the programme progresses.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • You’ll support the Project Manager in delivering major civil engineering scopes safely, to programme, and to budget.
  • Working within a large, multi-disciplinary team, you’ll gain exposure across the full project lifecycle, from early design and contractor engagement through to delivery.

Your Work Will Include

  • Project delivery and coordination
  • Supporting planning, coordination and monitoring of work packages
  • Organising and documenting meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting Multi-disciplinary Teams and Joint Management Team meetings
  • Coordinating technical, commercial, cost and schedule discussions
  • Helping develop project documentation, controls and reporting

Project controls and reporting

  • Supporting programme updates, progress reviews and performance reporting
  • Assisting with budget tracking, financial assessments and internal papers
  • Supporting earned value activities
  • Maintaining clear, auditable project records

Contracts and supply chain

  • Supporting contract administration activities including early warnings and compensation events
  • Working with design suppliers and the wider Civil Works Alliance
  • Providing input to procurement and commercial teams

Risk, quality and safety

  • Supporting risk and opportunity management
  • Contributing to quality reporting and compliance with nuclear standards
  • Promoting a strong nuclear safety culture in everything you do

Stakeholder engagement

  • Supporting effective communication across delivery teams and the wider project
  • Helping build collaborative ways of working with partners and regulators

What We’re Looking For

This role would suit someone who is ambitious, curious, and keen to build a long-term career in major projects.

Essential

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline

Desirable

  • Experience in civil engineering design delivery or project support
  • Exposure to projects from concept through to handover
  • Working towards or interest in chartership (ICE, IStructE, APM)
  • Working in an environment managing third party design companies.

You’ll bring strong organisation skills, confidence working with data, and the ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders. Most importantly, you’ll be keen to learn, take responsibility, and grow.

Why Sizewell C

This is not business as usual. You’ll be part of a project backed by government and major investors, delivering low‑carbon power to around 6 million homes for at least 60 years. The scale, complexity and visibility are unmatched, and so is the opportunity to build a meaningful career. If you’re looking for a role that will stretch you, develop you, and open doors for the future, we’d love to hear from you.

Additional Information

Join the team at Sizewell C. Our vision is Lead The Way On Nuclear. The Sizewell C team is one of the most exciting and largest new megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. We have begun constructing a 3.2‑gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast in the East of England replicating, wherever possible, the design used for Hinkley Point C, another nuclear power station being built in Somerset. When built, Sizewell C will be one of the largest power stations to operate in the UK. The power station will generate low carbon electricity for at least 60 years, supplying over 6 million homes and supporting around 7% of the UK’s current electricity needs.

We are the first nuclear power station in the UK to be funded under the Regulated Asset Base funding model (RAB). Our largest shareholder is the UK Government, alongside equity partners La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure. Sizewell C operates within a complex and fast‑moving stakeholder environment, engaging with a wide range of partners including government bodies, regulators, local communities, supply chain partners, and international collaborators. This makes Sizewell C a uniquely stimulating place to work — where navigating evolving priorities, balancing interests, and building trusted relationships is just as critical as technical excellence. For those who thrive in dynamic, multi‑dimensional settings, it offers unmatched professional challenge and growth.

When joining Sizewell C, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group. At Sizewell C we encourage and embrace diversity and how it can improve our experience and performance at work. It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility that we can explore, we are fully committed to local recruitment where possible, and those already holding the right to work in the UK. To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
