The predicted salary is between 56700 - 69300 £ per year.

Location: London or Suffolk (hybrid working arrangement, 2 days minimum per week in the office).

Contract: Permanent, full-time. (The role is expected to be a full-time position, however, we are open to discussing a more flexible or part-time approach, where practicable.)

Benefits include:

  • Annual Leave: 28 days per annum, increasing to 30 days after 5 years of service, plus bank holidays.
  • Pension Contributions: Defined Contribution Pension Scheme with up to 7.5% employee contribution and 15% employer contribution.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and collaborative Legal Counsel – Legal Assurance and Compliance to:

  • Develop and deliver engaging training to legal colleagues and the wider business in order to build capability so that legal colleagues can advise with clarity and confidence.
  • Translate legal requirements into clear practical guidance and procedures and partner with SZC’s delivery and commercial teams to assure compliance and continued development.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, helping the business to meet its commitments and enabling best in class delivery.
  • Work closely with and support your senior manager and the wider legal team in order to help with strategic advice, resilience and support under SZC’s complex transactional arrangements including the economic licence and financing arrangements.

You will work closely with Sizewell C legal team colleagues, external advisers and SZC business colleagues to embed strong legal awareness and best practice across Sizewell C in the context of SZC’s financing and regulated asset base licensing obligations.

About You

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in England & Wales (or equivalent) with strong experience of law and contractual provisions in a regulatory and/or infrastructure environment, ideally gained in the major projects or energy sector or, for instance, with professional support lawyer experience and/or with legal training and assurance responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of legal risk management, compliance and assurance frameworks, and experience of training delivery.
  • Understanding of UK energy regulatory frameworks and experience working with regulators is desirable.
  • Excellent, approachable communication and facilitation skills with the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical guidance, presentations and processes for both lawyers and non-lawyers and deliver training to a variety of audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and evolving project environment.
  • A proactive, organised approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex contractual provisions.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to build trusted relationships.
